Custom Living Rooms

The living room is an ideal environment for friends and family to relax and socialize. When Med City Builders goes about designing this space, the layout will encourage social interaction and make people feel at ease. Here are some things we consider when designing a living room.

Make a Focal Point

A focal point helps draw you into the room, and fireplaces and televisions have traditionally served this purpose. If a client wants both items in their living room, we can pair them together so that they don’t compete.

Arrange Furniture to Encourage Conversation

Living rooms were meant for socializing, so we position the furniture in a way that promotes conversation.

Choose Colors That Fit the Mood

Med City Builders recognizes the importance of colors. The hues in your living room will affect the moods of your guests and can affect the heart of your home, so choose colors that accent your kitchen.

Small Living Room Design
For clients with limited space, Med City Builders knows a variety of tricks to make their small living room feel more spacious:

White. We can keep the walls and floor white to brighten up the space and make it appear bigger and less cluttered.

Big Rugs. Unlike smaller rugs, big rugs don’t break up the floor visually.

High Curtains. Curtains hung well above the windows will add a sense of height to a small room.

Play With Scale. We’ve found that filling a living room with a small number of large elements, such as oversized chairs, helps the room feel less cluttered:

Living Dining Room Combo
Some clients ask us to create a living room and dining room out of a single open area. Here are some ways we make it work:

Divide the Room With a Large Piece of Furniture. We believe that it’s easier to create two separate spaces by drawing a line with the furniture. A large couch is a great item for visually dividing the room in half.

Separate the Space With Rugs. Another method we use is laying two rugs down to help compartmentalize each space.

Make a Walkway. For clients that can spare the space, we believe that the easiest way to separate the two areas is by creating a walkway between them. We can further divide the space by laying down a hallway runner.

Anchor Each Area With Artworks. Placing a painting or artwork over each area will help to define each space. We’ve found that these artworks should be distinct and large — but no larger than the couch.
